Backpacking in Brisbane
Queensland's capital, Brisbane, is the perfect city for backpackers. A relaxed vibe, loads of hostels, bars and clubs, adventure and easy access to the natural attractions of Southern Queensland make it the perfect base. Don't be surprised if you wind up spending longer than you planned living, working and touring in and around the River City.

Backpacking at the Gold Coast
There's not just one thing about the Gold Coast that causes many backpackers to stay longer than they planned. It's a combination of a whole lot of stuff.
For a start there are the beaches. Miles and miles of them with some of the best surf available. From point break to open beach waves there is plenty of space for the expert, and those just learning to surf.

To really get the adrenalin rushing there are jet boats, Tiger Moth flights, bungy, some truly wicked rides at the theme parks and something called a Zorb which involves rolling down a hill inside a large plastic sphere.

And then at night the coast really comes alive with a vibrant club and pub scene.

Meanwhile, the quiet reflective types can head to cool mountain rainforests of the Gold Coast Hinterland for a whole new view of the coast.
The Gold Coast is also home to some great reasons to party including the Lexmark Indy and the Quicksilver Roxy Pro-Surfing Contest.

Backpacking in Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef
The Tropical North is adventure central. Cairns is a big party town and the perfect base for snorkelling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef, white water rafting, tandem skydiving, bungy jumping, mountain biking, and sunrise hot air ballooning. Trek in the Daintree and Cape Tribulation World Heritage rainforests. Or climb aboard a 4WD safari to the wilds of Cape York, the northernmost tip of Australia.
