Central Queensland

Central Queensland and the Southern Great Barrier Reef are gateways to some of the most rugged and spectacular Queensland destinations. Explore the character and natural beauty of Carnarvon Gorge, the Sapphire Gemfields and some of the most unspoilt coastlines and islands anywhere in the world, when you visit places like the Town of 1770, Heron Island and Great Keppel Island.

The Central Queensland and Southern Great Barrier Reef region offer some of Queensland’s best kept secret hideaways and some of the best known Australian icons. From spectacular gorges to deserted beaches, whatever you look for in a holiday, in this part of the world you really are spoilt for choice to find that special place where you can unwind and relax.

For golfing and fishing fans, the region boasts the best of both worlds. Fish for the iconic Bass or Barramundi in on of our man y freshwater fishing spots or hop on a deep sea fishing charter and throw in a line for some of the regions trademark mackerel and red throat emperor.

Within easy reach of the Capricorn Coast, Great Keppel Island is a paradise of sandy coves, fringing reefs, unspoilt bushland and stunning beaches. Heron Island forms the basis of a perfect ecological holiday while epitomizing indulgence and relaxation of the mind, body and soul. During the summer months you can be witness Turtles laying eggs and hatchlings by the waters edge and the nesting of marine birdlife. Enjoy a break at the Town of 1770 and Agnes Water, just one of the many beautiful coastal retreats and also one of the closest access points to all the Southern Great Barrier Reef and islands have to offer.

Snorkel or scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef from one of a group of sublime island off the coast. Experience the dust and drama of one of the region’s renowned rodeos, where bull riders go head to head with some of the biggest beasts in Australia. If you are after something more low key enjoy some real country hospitality at an authentic working cattle station, where you can discover all there is to know about everyday life on the land, like riding horses, mustering cattle and perhaps milking the resident cow.

For nature lovers the region is home to some of Queensland’s most spectacular national parks which offer a blend of pristine beaches, wetlands, lush rainforest and dramatic gorges and waterfalls where you can bushwalk, camp, relax or explore to your hearts content.
